Blasts from the Past
Category: Event
Saturday Aug 7 2010 11:00 - Sunday Aug 8 2010 17:00
At: Broadlands, Romsey, SO51 9ZE
The Broadlands Estate in Romsey is set to stage a new major summer spectacular on the weekend of 7-8 August, open 11am - 5pm each day.
'Blasts from the Past', a series of historical re-enactments, will provide an exciting and colourful pageant of English life. Alongside battles, encampments and a WWII fly-past, there will also be more peaceful scenes of domestic life, including an intriguing mix of medicine, knitting and the almost unknown British moonshot of 1939! 'Blasts from the Past' takes place in the grounds of Broadlands House, bringing our history spectacularly to life.
Designed for families (parents and grandparents as well as children!) and anyone interested in the history of this country and beyond, the event will feature high-octane shows in close proximity to musket and cannon fire from a range of re-enacted battles. There will also be numerous activities for those who would like to 'have a go'. Children - and even adults - can try medieval archery; then there's a Civil War soldiers' drill for children, the chance to learn WWII fighter tactics, watch a hilarious 'Mr Punch v Adolf Hitler' show, dress up and take part in activities in the Tudor tent, or try on a medieval helmet. You can also visit the 40 or so encampments around the park, and see everything from Greek Hoplites or Dark Age warriors to cowboy camps and Native American tepees.
